dark bird, 2021

collage, approx. 6x8”

this torn paper collage depicts a taxidermy specimen of a small bat, with a man's leg, torn from a magazine, pasted onto it's body. the contour lines flow together, and the composition works better than it should. the seam is somehow almost believable. this piece makes me think about taxidermy as a pursuit, and how remarkably weird it is, and about how we draw the line at humans. a taxidermy human would be “too far”. yet we embalm our loved ones upon their deaths, only to bury them underground and never look at them again. dark bird indeed. the leg is harrison ford’s, from a gossip magazine. may that context be helpful, in some small way
